Sam Kohl is a pioneer and legend in the professional pet grooming industry through vision, business acuity and initiative. He has dedicated his career to improving education, developing standardized curriculum, improving skill performance and developing quality, practical products that save time and provide superior results. His New York School of Dog Grooming graduated over 20,000 students worldwide, serving as the educational foundation for generations of new pet groomers today.

Innovation that Changed an Industry

Sam has always been an animal lover. After owning and selling several pet related businesses, fate led him to take a course at the New York School of Dog Grooming owned at the time by Ben Stone. A few years later working as pet groomer and business entrepreneur, Sam was offered the opportunity to buy the school. Since 1970 Sam and his wife, Cynthia, expanded and changed the course of history. Immediately, Sam created the first licensed school of dog grooming in the State of New York, He then developed the first textbook, The All Breed Dog Grooming Guide®, with instructor, Cathy Goldstein. This first-of-a-kind textbook utilized the input from every AKC breed club and several national AKC breeders to develop a standardized curriculum including breed specific guidelines with step-by-step grooming instructions to adapt show styles to pet style.
